International Men’s Health Week always begins on the Monday before Father’s Day and ends on Father’s Day itself. During 2019, it’s from Monday 10th until Sunday 16th June. Last year’s theme was “Men & Families – making healthy connections” and focussed on the idea that improved family connections can improve the health of men and that family can be very influential on the wellbeing of men. This year the theme in Ireland is “Men’s Health Matters – Make the Time. Take the Time”, encouraging men and boys to take better care of their health and to seek help or treatment at an early stage.
I’m not going to go into all the numbers and stats here that one can glean from the media and dedicated sites to prove why men’s health matters, we all know that some aspects of typical historical or cultural expectations deem men should act and be perceived to be independent, strong and relatively tight-lipped about what is going on inside. This may have limited men in developing deeper connections with themselves and looking at the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of their inner landscape. This is where Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapy® and energy therapy in general can be particularly powerful and effective.
